About the Artist

Simon Buchanan was born in Bristol in 1966 and educated at St. James School in London.
After leaving school, and having travelled in the east for a year, he apprenticed himself to the sculptors Edwin Russell FRBS and Lorne McKean FRBS.
Having completed the seven year apprenticeship Simon started work in London as a self-employed artist in 1993.
Early work included studio work for the sculptor Nathan David FRBS and designing and carving memorial stones for Memorials by Artists.
In 1994 Simon was elected to membership of the Society of Designer-Craftsmen.
In 1997 he was commissioned to carve an altar piece for the chapel in the new school building of of his old school, St. James. This was just the scale and type of work he was looking for and showed the direction of the work to come.
More commissions followed.
The work these days is almost all done to commission whether private, public or corporate.
